Dear MOSAIC Families,

I would like to begin this week’s email with a video from the broadcast class at Oakville High School. Students from OHS attended a MOSAIC Production Club meeting to discuss components of storytelling and share video editing tips with our students.

Outdoor Classroom Opportunities

Looking for gardeners, engineers, artists, builders, educators, and anyone else who would like to serve or give their vision of the Outdoor Classroom at MOSAIC. We are trying to build our Outdoor Classroom at MOSAIC and we need a committee of volunteers to help guide this project and implement it. We would also like to have some of our students participate in this committee. This project is still in the early phases and much has to be done. Much of the innovation and planning can be done through Facebook.

Update from MOSAIC’s PBIS team

The goal of PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) is to provide students with positive supports and interventions that help them make positive choices while at school.  The MOSAIC staff encourages positive student behavior through class MOSAIC Tiles and individual MOSAIC Mindset Tickets.  In addition, the MOSAIC staff utilizes common language and expectations throughout the building to provide students with a feeling of consistency.  Upon returning from winter break, the MOSAIC staff reviewed expectations for the various areas of the school with the students.  In addition to the PBIS program, the MOSAIC staff also provides supports to meet the individual needs of students as they arise.  We utilize the Zones of Intervention model, which helps students recognize and regulate their emotions.  We use the 7 Habits of Happy Kids philosophy which encourages students to develop 7 habits that can be employed throughout their lives.  7 Habits of Happy Kids lines up with 7 Habits of Effective People.  In addition, Ms. Blanchette is teaching the Second Steps program to the kids during her weekly counseling sessions.  All of these programs help the MOSAIC staff to guide the development of the whole child, including their academic, emotional, social, and behavioral development.  Ultimately, the MOSAIC staff wants each child to leave MOSAIC as a productive citizen.
