Dear MOSAIC Families,

Happy Monday and welcome to a new week. There have been many exciting things happen during the past few weeks at MOSAIC. The stage has been converted to our new music room. Our previous art storage room has been renovated to our new Design Studio. The Design Studio will provide resources and space for students to create artifacts that showcase students understanding within the PBL work. Thank you to our PTO for their support in purchasing furniture and supplies for the Design Studio. Finally, I would sincerely like to thank the MOSAIC parents who have helped the past two weekends build MOSAIC’s outdoor classroom. MOSAIC established a wonderful partnership with South Tech teacher, Albie Mitchell and his students to assist our students to design, revise and construct this beautiful space that will be utilized by all students for many years. The outdoor classroom provides students the opportunity to take their learning outside and connect with nature. The possibilities are endless!

I always encourage our families to attend PTO meetings and events. Our next PTO meeting is tomorrow evening, Tuesday, November 13th from 6pm-7pm in the cafeteria. In addition to the updates provided by PTO board members, our 3rd grade studio teachers will be presenting on the learning taking place in their studio. I will be presenting on a unique learning opportunity for our current 4th and 5th grade students at the Great Smokey Mountains Institute at Tremont. Tremont offers a hands-on science learning experience in nature in the beautiful Smokey Mountains. Please attend tomorrow’s meeting to learn more!

A note from our school nurse

During the month of November, vision and hearing screenings will take place at MOSAIC. Vision screenings will take place on 11/16. Grades Kg, 2nd, and 4th will be screened as well as any new to the district students or any students that receive SSD services.  Hearing screenings will take place on 11/29. Grades Kg, 1st, and 3rd will be screened as well as any new to the district students or any students that receive SSD services.  If any referrals need to be made, a letter will be sent home.  If your student wears glasses or contacts, please make sure they are wearing them on screening days!

Food Drive

The character council and MOSAIC’s Boy Scout Pack 3076 are sponsoring a can food and boxed food drive November 1-20.  Mosaic’s Boy Scout Pack 3076 is sponsoring the food drive on Friday, November 16thFood will be donated to Feed My People and the JB Food Pantry.  Collection boxes are by the front doors.  

This is a great opportunity to help our local community in need. All donations will be delivered to food banks right here in South County. Please send nonperishable with your student on Friday November 16th.  In return your student may wear a hat for the day. Boy Scout Pack 3076 thanks you for your donations and support as we partner together to help our community.

A note from MOSAIC’s PBIS Team

As part of the PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Systems) model, the MOSAIC staff reinforces positive behavior and students and studios who are following the MOSAIC Mindset.  The MOSAIC Mindset encompasses our three school rules:  Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe.  Students have the opportunity to earn MOSAIC Mindset tickets from any adult at MOSAIC who feels that student is demonstrating the MOSAIC Mindset.  The staff member fills out the ticket and presents it to the student, sharing with them why they earned the ticket.  The student then turns the ticket into their studio and the studio sends tickets to the office.  MOSAIC Mindset tickets are pulled each week and students' names are announced on the weekly video announcements.  Students may also bring MOSAIC Mindset tickets home to show their family members.  Thank you for helping us support positive behavior at MOSAIC by acknowledging your child's effort when earning a MOSAIC Mindset ticket.  The entire MOSAIC community of students, families, and staff help make MOSAIC a positive place to learn.

“Toiletree” Holiday Hygiene Drive - Mon, 12/03 - Fri, 12/07; drop-off daily between 8AM and 4:30PM

We are asking for your help this holiday season to build a “toiletree” benefitting Lydia’s House, a transitional housing agency for women and children in crisis. MOSAIC Parents Holiday Party - Friday, 12/07/2018; 7PM:

Let’s get together and celebrate the holidays with fellow MOSAIC parents and staff members on December 7th, from 7-11pm at Andre’s South, 4234 Telegraph Road. Come dressed as either your favorite holiday movie character or put on your ugliest holiday sweater so we can all enjoy some holiday cheer. This is an adult only event and NOT A FUNDRAISER, just a fun holiday get-together.  (This is not a school sponsored event.)


Due to only one banquet room available for this evening, we have a 150 person maximum for this event, no exceptions. Seats are first come first serve until sold out.  Also, due to the limited space, this event is only open to MOSAIC parents/guardians and staff members. Price per person is $13 which includes dinner and a cash bar. To ensure both a payment is received and a reservation is made, we encourage payment to be sent via PayPal. Please send payment to the MOSAIC PTO Paypal address, mosaicpto@gmail.com and include the names of all guests on the payment memo. For any questions about this event, please email Abby Riess directly at abby13riess@gmail.comIf you do not use PayPal and would like purchase reservations, please contact Abby directy to work out payment arrangements.  Once payment has been received, there will be a confirmation email to verify the reservation(s).

A White Elephant gift exchange will be going on at the party.  For anyone interested, bring a $10 gift to the event and drop it off at the gift table bearing the white elephant.
